Fire Dampers are an essential part of any building with an air-conditioning system. Fire Dampers are designed to prevent the spread of fire through the building via the ductwork. The nature of a ventilation and extraction system means that it is in almost every part of the building.

Fire Dampers react to smoke or fire by a variety of methods; heat sensitive device, smoke detector or directly activated by the fire alarm. Often it is a combination of all three methods.

Adequate ventilation in the workplace is a requirement under current Health and Safety legislation. They recommend an air supply rate of between 5-8 litres per second for each occupant. In certain workplaces, windows and doors may provide adequate ventilation but in some case mechanical ventilation systems are appropriate.

Any ventilation that is installed needs to maintain humidity and ventilation at reasonable levels for those working in the space. Any ventilation system should remove and dilute warm humid air and provide air movement to create a sense of freshness without causing a draught. Read more »
